The world sees Christians as cowardly and weak.
Unbelievers don't get to say how Christians should react when ungodly people blatantly mock/blaspheme against Jesus and His followers. We obey/surrender to/listen to Jesus. I love You, King Jesus!
This post is inspired by John MacArthur’s book “Kingdom Living: Here and Now”.
First and foremost, this is the only thing I will say, I don’t want to give this part of my post too much time: the controversy that happened at the Olympics during a boxing match between a biological male and a woman was outright evil, men are more stronger than women, so it was an unfair match-up and I pray that the women are doing better now and the controversy during the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris was a despicable display of mockery of Jesus and the Last Supper before Jesus’ crucifixion, blasphemy, Satan worship, perversion and idolatry. It’s not shocking because Jesus says in Luke 17:26-30: “And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of Man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.” We’re in those days now, seeing much apathy, pride, greed, sin being celebrated and when God’s Word is preached, unbelievers become very hostile, and Christians are persecuted.
Continuing on with my post, the world sees Christians as very weak, never in constant battle when wickedness abounds and not taking vengeance upon themselves when mockery of Jesus is displayed for everyone to see, when that’s not what Jesus expects from true Christians. We are to never hate anyone, we aren’t meant to take vengeance upon ourselves, and we must never fight anyone when hostility/persecution/reviling comes upon us but show love to all our neighbors.
Jesus says that true Christians are blessed in His Sermon on the Mount when we show the characteristics of how we have been saved by Him when we are poor in spirit, (opposite of being haughty/prideful, that we’re spiritually bankrupt when we realize we have nothing to offer God and we receive salvation through faith and God’s grace) when we mourn over our sinfulness being comforted when we confess our sins to Him, and how we mourn over the people who are lost in their sinful ways, we also are comforted, it’s sad to see unbelievers going after their sin and not realizing the wages of their sin is death, when we are meek, (when we truly have been humbled before God realizing that we are wretched sinners who are lost without Him and knowing that God is holy and righteous, sin will never be able to be in His presence) when we truly hunger and thirst after righteousness, (when we truly don’t want to sin anymore, we seek after the righteousness that God can only give to us, we hunger and thirst for more of God and cannot ever get enough of Him, we imitate Him in all aspects of our daily lives) when we are merciful, (by the mercy that God has shown to us when we truly become born again, humbly repenting and confessing our sins to Him, with the Holy Spirit, we want to show the same mercy to others when people revile us, mock us, laugh at us, call us names and persecute us, we’re blessed and want to always forgive them as Jesus asked His Father to forgive the people who were mocking and persecuting Jesus and when we want to also help someone in need without wanting something in return because 2 Corinthians 9:7 says God loves a cheerful giver) when we are pure in heart, (when we are born again, spiritually transformed into a new creature by the grace of God, we have saving faith and we live lives according to what the Bible says and on Jesus’ teachings as the Holy Spirit is helping conform us to the image of Christ where we love righteousness and true holiness) when we are peacemakers, (when we are at peace with God and we desire to be at peace with everyone, our peace with Christ enables us to be ambassadors of God’s message to a troubled world) and when we are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, having people revile us and saying all manner of evil against us falsely for Jesus’ sake. That’s when we rejoice and be exceeding glad, because our reward in heaven is great, they persecuted the prophets in the Old Testament. (When we suffer the way Jesus suffered as He was going through tremendous persecution as the Romans and Pharisees were mocking Him, reviling Him, and spitting in His face, we’ll never go through anything like He went through, but if we want to be a true follower of Jesus, we will go through what He went through just as He says we will in John 15:18-25 and 2 Timothy 3:12 says, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Persecution/hostility/mocking/reviling/name calling/insults will come because true Christians are not part of the world system, we’re a threat to them and they hate Jesus and us.)
I’ll finish with this: unbelievers who say that we’re weak, that we forgive too much, that we’re pathetic because we don’t rage and get angry when ungodly people blatantly mock and blaspheme Jesus’ name have no idea what the Bible says. It’s not easy being a true Christian, but I really feel bad for all unbelievers who say such horrible things like that. We are not weak, we don’t ever want to give into the temptation of sinning or our flesh, we must constantly war with our flesh when we have the Holy Spirit, they fight against each other, so we don’t do the things that we wish. We can be righteously angry, but not be angry/rage and give in to our flesh, (Ephesians 4:26) and Jesus says in Matthew 6:14-15, “For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you: but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Never let unbelievers tell us how we should react to ungodly people mocking our Lord and Savior and that we should rage when evil things like that happen, we are never to give in to our flesh, because Romans 8:8 says, “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God” and whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (James 4:4)
We are to only listen to Jesus, surrender to Him, obey Him, follow Him and His commandments if we truly love Him. I give all the praise, the glory, the honor, the gratitude, and all thanks to Jesus Christ for saving us, for helping us be transformed into His likeness by the Holy Spirit, by being born again and for what He did for us and continues to do for us today. In order to be saved, unbelievers must confess with their mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord, believe in their hearts that God has raised Him from the dead, repent, (turn away from their sin) believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay the atonement for their sins when they confess them, surrender their whole lives to God with the time they have left and follow His Commandments. I love Jesus Christ with all my heart and don’t like seeing Him being mocked and His name constantly blasphemed. That’s why He’s the only truth because He wants people to come to repentance and He’s the only One who gave His life to save ours. Trust in Jesus and believe in Him for eternal life today, tomorrow is never promised at all for anyone. God Bless everyone!
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. - Ephesians 4:29-32.
